The author, Irina Marina is a child neuropsychologist with more than 10 years of experience and a PhD in biology. Her games are based on the materials she uses in her practice with kids.
Our educational games and apps are aimed at development of cognitive processes of children: memory, attention, logic and other. These brain functions are most responsive to training in preschool age (3-6 years). Kids who get this kind of exercise in young age learn facts about the world, acquire skills, and process information faster and in a more effective way.
When a child goes to school, the intellectual pressure increases which may lead to stress and difficulties of adaptation. That's why it's important that preschoolers have their cognitive abilities developed already before school. Most teachers and psychologists believe that in pre-school education rather than just teaching a kid facts (numbers, letters or shapes) it is more important to build the cognitive processes: fine motor skills (which are related to speech), logical reasoning, imagination, concentration, visual memory, spatial intelligence. If these functions are trained well, the child will have higher IQ and learn any school material easily.
ADHD (or ADHS, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder / Syndrome) is frequent in kindergarten and early school period, when parents notice that the child is easily distracted, can't focus on the task at hand and makes "silly" mistakes. It's best to seek help of a professional in this case, but some exercises can be also done at home, with mom or dad.
Your Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod, or an Android tablet is engaging, interactive and fun for kids, which gives it an advantage over books. An app of the "edutainment" type, if designed properly and by people with education in psychology or pedagogy, can be a great help in such home teaching. Our games are made professionally: they are based on the paper-format materials the author has been successfully using in her practice of treating ADHD and other problems for over a decade. In these apps, moms can first show their children how to solve the tasks. After the child has understood the principle, it can continue on its own.
